BIOGRAPHY

DocStory

Born in Belfast from Irish parents, Bernard Neeson pent his youth following his father, soldier in the British Army, around the world.

Finally, the family settles in Adelaide (Australia) where Bernard finished school. After spending time as conscript in the Australian army,

Bernard went back to his studies in University and complete degrees in Film and English.

Bernard wanted to be an actor. But, at this time there was so few done in film industry in Australia, he was keeping on gigging with small bands to pay his studies. Most of the time, he was plating bass with his friends Rick and John Brewster.

Alias "Doc" Neeson with the band called "The Moonshine Jug & String Band", they played on local scenes.

In 1974, the band change name for "the Keystone Angels".  There were then four members, the Brewster brothers playing guitars, Doc as singer and bassist and Charlie King as drummer.

Few times later with a bassist, Chris Bailey, and a new drummer Graham "Buzz Bidstrup" Throckman, they became "the Angels". The legend tell they draw attention of Angus Young and Bon Scott (from AC/DC, I'm sure you know) and their producers Vanda & Young to themselves.

In 1977, they made their debut album "the Angels" with Albert Production, Vanda & Young's company.

The Angels breakthrough came with the album 'Face To Face’. Not so much "hits", the album contained songs which became stage favourites then and remained Angels staples forever - 'Take A Long Line', 'After The Rain', 'Comin' Down', 'Marseilles'. The album delivered a tough blend of punk and metal.

The band style was closer of new wave or punk and very different from hard rock "classical" bands.

They had short hair, no leather clothing,  ...

The band brought it home on stage behind Doc, their theatrical lead singer, jumping and gesturing maniacally, highlighting the drama in the lyrics. In every way they were one of the most exciting bands in the country, and exhaustive touring brought the band a generation of loyal fans.

In 1980, the Angels set their sights on the rest of the world. To avoid confusion with a similarly named group, for the rest of the world they changed their name to AngelCity>.

During a long career, the line-up of the band change many times, but Doc Neeson and Rick Brewster were always members.

In November 2001, Doc Neeson left the group, because of ill health due to a car accident two years earlier. Doc's car had been rear-ended by a truck leaving him suffering chronic back and neck pain as well as blurred vision.

The original band decided to continue without Doc, as the “Angels Band”.

Doc Neeson came back in 2005, with a new band, Red Phoenix. In November 2005 they released a debut album, produced by former Angel’s producer Terry Manning. But later that month the band was forced to cancel all shows, again due to Doc's state of health.

Today, Doc begins a come back with an acoustic album with "Doc Neeson Angels".

Finally, the red phoenix rises from the ashes.
